Hello, my name is Dr. J. Gregory Briggs and I would like to welcome you to my private practice at The Briggs Institute, Inc. The therapists, supervisors, and I are eager to serve you and we get excited every time our clients learn how to overcome their struggles and begin to enjoy healthier and happier lives.

We look forward to working with you.

Before Your First Session

We invite you to download and complete the intake paperwork at the bottom of this page prior to arriving to your first session. This helps get your session started on time and gives us all the information we need to create a confidential case file for you.

The intake paperwork includes a Consent Form that describes your professional relationship with us and tells you what you can expect in therapy, a Notice of Privacy Practices that informs you of the ways we keep your personal information confidential and secure, and a Client Intake form that we use to help get to know who you are. Instructions for filling out these forms are available below.

Your first appointment will last approximately one hour from the time you arrive to complete all necessary paperwork to the moment your session ends and you schedule your next appointment.  Because you will not be able to see your therapist until you complete all necessary paperwork, arriving on time is critical. After you read, sign, and turn in all paperwork, you will have approximately 50 minutes to meet with your therapist for your first session.

Your First Session

During your first session, you will have the opportunity to ask your therapist any questions you may have and he or she will tell you what you can expect as a client at the Institute. Your therapist will also ask you questions about your life, health, and relationship history, and will give you the opportunity to describe your reasons for coming to therapy.

By the end of your first session, you will have started a therapeutic process that has helped countless others achieve their goals by learning to overcome struggles, manage mental health issues, and strengthen their relationships. All of us at the Institute admire your decision to begin therapy and we are honored to be able to work with you.

Evidence-Based Practice

All of the therapists at the Institute practice an evidence-based approach to therapy. This means their treatment plans for you are significantly influenced by scientific theory and research. Your therapist will ask you to contribute to this process by inviting you to complete brief questionnaires that let us know how you feel about your life in general, your relationships with others, and your experience in therapy. We use this information to track your progress and to inform our decisions as we try to help you reach your goals. We look forward to finding out what therapy can help you accomplish.
