Joshua Hardee, AMFT
I came to therapy the way many of us do—as a client first. Though I’d experienced counseling as a teenager, it wasn’t until I found myself back in the therapy room as an adult that everything clicked. That’s when I realized this was the work I wanted to do with my life.
My journalism background taught me to listen for the story beneath the story, and my own therapy experiences showed me the power of having someone truly witness your journey. I believe in creating space where you can be fully yourself—messy parts and all—while we work together toward the changes you’re seeking.

Therapist Experience
After working as a journalist in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, I moved to Nashville to pursue graduate school (and maybe write some songs). I earned my master’s and completed my clinical internship at Horn Counseling, where I worked with individuals, couples, and groups. This gave me experience working with diverse clientele across a wide range of presenting problems.
Therapy Interests
My approach is adaptive, relational, and attachment-based. I primarily used a mix of emotionally focused therapy (EFT), narrative therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and parts work. I’m particularly passionate about supporting clients facing depression, anxiety, identity exploration, life transitions, spiritual questioning, adverse religious experiences, and LGBTQ+ concerns. I also love working with couples at any stage—whether they’re just starting out or working through decades together. I have experience co-leading an ADHD support group, giving me and expanded understanding of neurodivergence and reminding me how much I love collaborating with my clients.
